Putin sees new grain harvest record in 2017

NOVO-OGARYOVO, Moscow Region, Sep 25 (PRIME) – Russia’s grain harvest will set a new record in 2017, President Vladimir Putin said on September 23 at a meeting with Economic Development Minister Maxim Oreshkin.

“It looks like we will again have a record harvest,” he said.

Oreshkin confirmed the forecast. “Yes, we did not start the season well, but the current weather conditions are ideal for the harvest, and the crop yield is higher than we had last year. The amount of lost crops contracted significantly,” he said.

On September 22, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said that Russia’s grain harvest reached 117 million tonnes in bunker weight. Agriculture Minister Alexander Tkachyov said then that the harvest in net weight had already exceeded the forecasted level of 110 million tonnes as of the date, and now the government sees the 2017 grain harvest at 117 million tonnes in net weight.

In 2016, Russia had a record high grain harvest of 120.7 million tonnes.
